Corruption: A sector-specific issue

Extensive literature on corruption shows that it is a universal phenomenon affecting societies all over the world at every level from petty corruption in the form of small scale bribes and favors, to large-scale corruption that influences policies and decisions that benefit only a few. The general drivers of corruption and the conditions under which it flourishes are addressed in the introductory courses (please refer to the two previously UNDP online courses for more information).

Corruption should be understood and addressed as a sectoral problem. The presence of corruption -as well as viable strategies to coombat it- depends largely on the sector in which it occurs.
