What does an integrated approach to corruption risk management entail?

An integrated sectorial approach involves a range of strategies to identify and address corruption bottlenecks that prevent the effective and equitable delivery of basic services (water, health, education).

In practice, an integrated sectorial approach focuses on: establishing a legal and regulatory framework that sets the parameters and standards for basic services; strengthening institutions to deliver services, as well as strengthening oversight institutions to ensure effective and efficient service delivery; and supporting the engagement of civil society and media to hold those responsible accountable. This approach has been recognized by increasing evidence suggesting that standalone anti-corruption projects are not sufficient to control corruption (Johnsøn, Taxell and Zaum 2012).
