In June 2013, consensus finally lead to the appointment of a Chief Commissioner and one additional commissioner. The appointments reenergized the commission to implement its mandate and also established 5 regional offices outside Kathmandu to control corruption at the local level.
The CIAA consists of the Chief Commissioner and up to four other commissioners as required. They are appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council following a parliamentary hearing. The commission is empowered to investigate and prosecute any abuse of authority committed through improper conduct or corruption by any individual holding public office. It includes:
