CASE STUDY
CIAA Nepal
UNDP 2013, Beth (no date)
The appointment of former Chief Secretary Lok Man Singh Karki as chief of the CIAA in June 2013 was met with mixed reactions in Nepal. Soon after he assumed office, Mr. Karki held a number of meetings and the CIAA raided several government offices and arrested 76 officials. Subsequently, dozens of cases were referred to the Special Court on corruption charges. The commission opened five new offices in the provinces, raising issues of capacity to meet public expectations.
